Introducing the New TFCA Company Officer Academy

The Texas Fire Chiefs Association (TFCA) is proud to announce the launch of an exciting new initiative: The Company Officer Academy!

We know that Company Officers are the backbone of leadership in the fire service. This newly developed academy is designed specifically for new and aspiring company-level officers, recognizing that this first step into formal leadership is often the most critical and influential.

The program also stands to offer a great amount of content to help those seasoned officers who are looking to improve their leadership performance. The Company Officer Academy will empower attendees with the skills, knowledge, and real-world insight needed to lead with excellence.

We’re bringing the Academy to you — with plans to host it across all nine TFCA regions throughout Texas!

We Need YOU to Help Build the Future of Fire Service Leadership!

TFCA is building an elite Instructor Cadre made up of seasoned, battle-tested Company Officers and Battalion Chiefs who can share first-hand experiences, lessons learned, and leadership wisdom straight from the front lines.

If you have a passion for mentorship and a desire to shape the future leaders of the Texas fire service, this is your chance to make a difference.

Instructor Requirements:

  • Current Company Officer (Lieutenant or Captain) or Battalion Chief (District/Shift Commander) actively overseeing shift operations.
  • Minimum 5 years as a Lieutenant, Captain and/or Battalion Chief
  • Graduate of the TFCA Chief Fire Executive Program or the TFCA Battalion Chief Academy.

Application Packet Must Include:

  • Letter of Interest describing your leadership journey and your motivation to join the Academy Cadre.
  • Letter of Recommendation from your Fire Chief.
  • Video Resume (3–5 minutes) introducing yourself, sharing your background, and highlighting the key leadership lessons you’ll bring to the classroom.

May 12 – June 23, 2025

  • Selection Notifications:

By July 25, 2025 (up to 18 cadre members will be selected)

  • Mandatory Train-the-Trainer Workshop:

August 11–12, 2025 (arrival on August 10)
