Line of duty deaths and injuries were on the decline but now seem to be increasing when cancer, suicide and COVID are included in the determining criteria. High risk behaviors and self-sacrificing attitudes may be contributing factors. Additional factors that contribute to the overall health and wellness of firefighters are discussed. Introduced in this session is the fire service culture change dilemma, a quandary faced by adaptive leaders when choosing to make adaptive changes within their organization and the potential consequences from no action.
